The Ghost Tide

I will be selling hand printed La Pascualita confetti editions in the Ghost shop for the Ghost Tide exhibition. This hand printed confetti is perfect to throw at any wedding! La Pascualita is a famous corpse bride shop mannequin in Mexico. She is rumoured to be the shop owner's daughter preserved after she died from a black widow bite just before her wedding day in 1930

I am also very pleased to have been invited to do a Papel Picado workshop for the closing of the exhibition on Saturday the 3rd Nov from 2- 5pm. The Ghost Tide - coinciding with the festivals of Hallowe'en, All Souls and the Day of the Dead - takes as its starting point the perspective that ghosts exist as an idea, or as part of a belief system, across cultures, across national borders and throughout recorded history. Most languages contain words to describe the ghost, spirit or immaterial part of a deceased person. Often, these words - like the type of ghost they describe - have traversed borders and been assimilated across cultures.

The exhibition, situated next to the Thames Barrier in South-East London, evokes ghosts as a migratory tide, washed up along the shore of the Thames their historical baggage in tow. It also explores the presence of artists in this part of London, as a migratory tide of creative flotsam and jetsam which ebbs and flows as the city gentrifies and develops.

Featured works include sculpture, installation, film, sound, performance and wall based works. The exhibition will include installations and outdoor interventions, as well as public events.
The Ghost Tide features works by over 30 UK and international artists.

For the Chutney Spa Sarah Doyle presents the sensory deprivation 'Isolation Helmet'. The treatment will consist of the subject wearing a large helmet when they emerge how will they have changed?
The helmet is inspired in part by the Isolator Helmet invented in 1925 by Hugo Gernsback, editor of Science and Invention magazine, one of the pioneers of science fiction. A futuristic spa treatment inspired by a future visionary!

Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach is a one-of-a-kind projection art festival where artists use the latest digital technologies to project their original works onto the iconic white walls of Alys Beach.

Sometimes referred to as “Photon Bombing,” “Guerilla Projection” or “Urban Projection,” underground artists around the globe have been using the latest design, animation and projection technologies for many years to cast dynamic images onto skyscrapers and other urban structures as a means of artistic expression. Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach is a festival geared towards bringing these artists together in one place to celebrate and showcase their unique talents.

Each year, the festival attracts digital artists, filmmakers, musicians, interactive designers, photographers, VJs, producers, celebrities, agency executives and fans of art, technology and architecture. Grove Park Carnival - Chutney Preserves River Dance

On Saturday12th August I am pleased to be taking part in Grove Park Carnival as part of Chutney Preserves River Dance alongside the artists Sarah Sparkes, Miyuki Kasahara and Rebecca Fiener.

The Chutney Preserves are a combination of village fete and art exhibition, they create one day public artworks which visitors can interact with and immerse themselves in. Inspired by the River Quaggy, the Chutney Preserves will be emerging from the waters with puppets masks and costumes.

My work for the Chutney Preserves inspired by the River Quaggy will be about the Kingfisher. The fantastic Quaggy Waterways Action Group had the river transformed from a concrete canal to the natural wetland it is today.  Operation Kingfisher is the name that the group gave to the grand design for the whole river. It was named this for the remaining Kingfishers that clung to the River Quaggy.
I will invite you to dress as a Kingfisher and fish for facts about the said bird near the banks of the Quaggy River.

#51%RememberHer

I am very pleased to be showing in the #51%RememberHer which launches on International Women's Day

"Women are half of our history, half of our present and half of our future"

I will be showing new and old work themed around the women of music hall. Including my costume from my performance as Marie Lloyd and new work featuring the performer Florrie Forde.

The Memorial Community Church is dedicated to the local men who were killed in WW1. During this era music hall songs were used to boost moral and recruit troops. One of the most famous of these wartime songs being "Pack up Your troubles in your old kit bag", which was performed by Florrie Forde. The work in part explores the optimism and joy in the lyrics of the song versus the reality of lives lost.

Launching on International Womenʼs Day Wednesday March 8th #51%RememberHer references London's 51 per cent female population and is the inaugural exhibition of over 100 women artists featuring sculpture, painting, animation, installation, photography, drawing, performance, graffiti, spoken word, history walks, talks and special events throughout the month. 

#51% RememberHer provides a significant survey of the creative female talent who live, work, study or have a family connection to the creative melting pot of East London. 

Artists will animate the East Tower of the Byzantine style, Grade II listed church, spilling over into the South Hall and Upper Balcony. 

Curator Rebecca Feiner said "Women are half of our history, half of our present, and half of, all our futures. Culturally with Maria Balshaw taking over at London's Tate Modern, and politically women physically making their presence felt from Japan, to Poland, from Saudi Arabia to America and here in the UK, it really felt like the right time to celebrate female creativity and make this exhibition happen.”

Serpent Cake For John Milton's 408th Birthday

Did you know that I also bake?
I was commisoned to make a cake for John Milton's 408th Birthday party at Milton's Cottage on the 9th December 2016.
Here is my serpent cake with red chocolate innards, I defy anyone to resist his tempting pink sponge cake apple!
The party for Milton was a great success and was also a celebration of the launch of The Comus Circle

Uncanny World Of Interiors

I am part of the Uncanny World Of Interiors show at 6 Caroline Place, part of Plymouth Art Weekender

The temporary domestic space at Caroline Place showcases the work of 6 designers and artists working with everyday materials, transforming the mundane into objects of desire. 
The unheimlich of Freud’s analysis wherein things pertaining to homeliness and domesticity are somewhat wrong footed by one thing or another, subjective to be sure, make us question what exactly ‘home’ is. A place? A feeling? A tribe we belong to? This is a subject that has substantial contemporary currency as migration and dislocation move cultures from places of conflict or through economic displacement. Small items may be carried from one place to another, they are left to be found later and integrated into the scheme of things.

Faraway Tree - Animating Lordship Lane

The Angry Pixie, Silky, The Saucepan Man, Dame Washalot and Moonface on the Faraway Tree I made for Animating Lordship Lane at Mrs Robinson with Fantasy High Street
Lordship Lane is where the author Enid Blyton was born in 1897. Her tales about The Magic Faraway Tree were some of my favourite books when growing up. It was so much fun to make my own take on the characters from these stories. 
All of the windows in the tree have drawings of the interiors of Enid Blyton's home where she wrote her children's stories 🌳


The shop window art trail has six art installations along Lordship Lane and runs from 30th Aug - 11th Sept 2016


There are art workshops and performances for the Family Fun Weekend on Sat 3rd - Sun 4th Sept. 
I will be running a Paper Automata workshop for children at Mrs Robinson, 128 - 130 Lordship Lane from 2 - 5pm on Sunday

My Faraway Tree made for Animating Lordship Lane at Mrs Robinsons shop. Enid Blyton was born on this very street many moons ago

Milton's Cottage Garden

I am showing new work in an outdoor exhibition at Milton's Cottage - the only surviving residence of the poet and parliamentarian, John Milton, and the place where he completed Paradise Lost.

The garden has been planted with flowers, trees and herbs that are referenced in his poetry and artists have been asked to create small-scale, site specific artworks that respond to his writings about gardens (including the Garden of Eden) as well as the garden itself.

I am showing mirrors in the flowerbeds of the gardens which are etched with Milton's handwriting. Each mirror has a different quote of Milton's about flowers.

In 1899 Vesta Tilley laid the foundation stone for the Camberwell Palace Of Varieties, which stood at 23-31 Denmark Hill. At this time Camberwell boasted around half a dozen theatres or cinemas. The day she laid the foundation stone she is reported to have said that she would be “delighted to sing the first song in the new Palace of Varieties”*

This film was created as part of Camberwell Arts Festival 2016 “Metamorphosis” project and features a song by the Music Hall star Vesta Tilley. She was one of the foremost musichall acts of her day and started her male impersonation act at the age of only 5 years old. Vesta Tilley personifies metamorphosis, an enduring icon, her influence can still be felt today.
